Ngo cho kun in
Its origin carries two versions; first version has ngo cho kun founded more than 1000 years ago by a man name Bai Yufeng it is said that he train under five great Shaolin masters each masters specializing in different kung fu styles. Bai Yufeng being a gifted martial artist, after training extensively and carefully analyzing each style, combine the five styles of his masters and he called it ngo cho kun.

The second version has ngo cho kun founded between 1875 – 1890 by Sijo Chua Giok Beng of Quanzhou, Fujian province China. Chua Giok Beng first teacher was Master Ho Yang who was originally from the north. After Master Ho Yan died, Chua Giok Beng personally escorted his master’s remains back to his northern hometown. On his way back he took the long route for one reason alone, and that is to meet, train, learn, and spar and to take his martial skill to higher level.
For 10 years of traveling, he got back to Quanzhou that he finally decided to introduced his version of ngo cho kun. Chua Giok Beng like Bai Yufeng was a gifted martial art fighter his skill was exceptional he became more famous after defeating other known masters who wanted to test his newly develop ngo cho kun.
Those masters who lost to Chua Giok Beng did not became his enemies instead they were deeply impressed and convince of ngo cho kun effectiveness and power. Those masters would become his loyal students and would later bond together for common interest of spreading ngo cho kun. They would be initiated by Chua Giok Beng and they will be known as the Ten Tigers.
Sijo Chua Giok Beng can be compare to martial greats like Bruce Lee, under Chua Giok Beng kung fu was revolutionized and expanded through out south China and all of south east Asia. But, unlike Bruce Lee, Sijo Chua Giok Beng was a strong believer of tradition he maintain the heritage of martial art and its importance to stay connected with our ancestors.
It is only by preserving tradition and heritage that the spirit of our ancestors and us can live on in an immortal state at the same time, to thousands of overseas Chinese it help them stay connected to their roots and identity.
